The DoseID Mission

DoseID is the first member-driven industry Alliance for the use of radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology in the healthcare space. Our goal is to ensure the quality, performance, and interoperability of RFID tagged drug products as they move through the supply chain from the manufacturer, through the distributor, to the hospital and eventually to the patient, across any hardware or software system. There are three areas that we focus on when it comes to standards: Quality and Performance, Data and Interoperability, and Serialization. These standards are the basis for our certification process with Auburn University’s RFID Lab.

As the industry sees an expanded focus on implementing RFID technology for enhanced analytics, the DoseID Alliance believes there needs to be collaboration across different industry players to develop these standards. These standards are beneficial for both patients and healthcare providers. The use of a Centralized Registry allows numerous data points to be associated with a single RFID tag with an end goal of a dynamic system that tracks medication from item registration during the manufacturing or compounding process, through decommissioning after a medication is administered to a patient. You can see below just how valuable the registry can be for your analytics.

Why RFID and not a barcode?

RFID reduces errors, providing a more effective way to ensure the integrity of the supply chain and prevent drug piloting. RFID can predict with 99% efficiency inventory in a box and does not have to maintain a line of sight. With barcodes there is a 7% error rate with information not matching up with the master data. RFID tags are also more versatile since they can work with blockchain and other standards such as Global Trade Item Numbers (GTIN) and can be complementary to 2D barcodes. Lastly, they increase efficiency saving hospitals time and money when it comes to managing their pharmacy’s inventory.

We are excited to launch this new Alliance. We hope you will join us in our goal to establish a shared platform that will work autonomously across all major pharmaceutical and automation partners. If you are interested in becoming a member, please reach out to us through the contact page.
